A Stringy Composite Graviton and the Cosmological Constant Problem

چکیده

A heuristic model of a composite graviton is presented motivated by open string field theory. The model simply assumes a composite closed string sector, world sheet conformal invariance and the observed open string states, i.e., standard model particles, as an input. A UV to IR map from the open string to the closed string sectors naturally emerges. The IR cutoff of the lightest observed fermion loops gets mapped to a UV cutoff for the scalar mode of the graviton/dilaton. This provides a UV cutoff for gravity via the dilaton coupling to G. Based on recent estimates of the lightest fermion (neutrino) mass this gives an energy cutoff for the graviton near the current estimates of the dark energy density of 10 eV.

The Graviton as a Bound State and the Cosmological Constant Problem

The graviton is pictured as a bound state of a fermion and antifermion with the spacetime metric assumed to be a composite object of spinor fields, based on a globally Lorentz invariant action proposed by Hebecker and Wetterich. The additional degrees of freedom beyond those of the graviton are described by Goldstone boson gravitational degrees of freedom. If we assume that the fermion is a lig...

Towards an Effective Particle-String Resolution of the Cosmological Constant Problem

The Cosmological Constant Problem is re-examined from an effective field theory perspective. While the connection between gravity and particle physics has not been experimentally probed in the quantum regime, it is severely constrained by the successes of Standard Model quantum field theory at short distances, and classical General Relativity at large distances. At first sight, it appears that ...

Stringy corrections to Kähler potentials, SUSY breaking, and the cosmological constant problem

The moduli of N = 1 compactifications of IIB string theory can be stabilized by a combination of fluxes (which freeze complex structure moduli and the dilaton) and nonperturbative superpotentials (which freeze Kähler moduli), typically leading to supersymmetric AdS vacua. We show that stringy corrections to the Kähler potential qualitatively alter the structure of the effective scalar potential...

General Ether Theorie and Graviton Mass

We introduce additional restriction into ”general ether theory” a generalization of Lorentz ether theory to gravity which fixes the signs of the cosmological constants in this theory. This leads to an oscillating universe, thus, solves the cosmological horizon problem without inflation. We prove the equivalence of the Lagrangian of this theory with Logunov’s ”relativistic theory of gravity” wit...

String Theoretic Bounds on Lorentz-Violating Warped Compactification

We consider warped compactifications that solve the 10 dimensional supergravity equations of motion at a point, stabilize the position of a D3-brane world, and admit a warp factor that violates Lorentz invariance along the brane. This gives a string embedding of “asymmetrically warped” models which we use to calculate stringy (α′) corrections to standard model dispersion relations, paying atten...
